I just finished reading The Pioneer Woman’s cookbook. Yes, reading. There’s a lot of reading in there. There’s not only recipes, but beautiful photos (of course) and stories and descriptions. It’s a lovely book by a lovely woman.
And earlier tonight, I met her.
My cousin Emily and I headed in to Little Rock this evening for her book signing at Walmart (doesn’t that location just scream Arkansas? We do have bookstores.)
The sky was particularly vibrant just before we arrived.
I got to meet Ruthanne which was equally exciting.
I had to bring the baby. She was squirmy, but good as far as babies go (as long as I kept feeding her cheese puffs).
There were other bloggers there too (shout out in the comments ladies so I can find your blog). I always wondered how many other bloggers were in Arkansas (well, besides those in North Arkansas). I kind of hoped it would be a small crowd.
We waited about an hour and a half in line. And before long we saw a familiar face.
Marlboro Man was there and he was also signing the book.
Pioneer Woman has beautiful hair.
She asked how old Tess was and commented that she was substantial for her age. That has had me giggling all night. After holding her for 2 hours in line I’m acutely aware of how substantial she is!
Ruthanne’s pictures are bound to be better. My camera didn’t like Walmart’s lighting. Thanks for coming to Arkansas, Ree! We enjoyed meeting you.

REE AND TESS IN ONE PHOTO? I'm afraid my stalker status just got elevated.
Will you judge me if you find that pic framed on my wall should you ever brave up to come visit me?
Number one, that first pic makes me miss LR a lot. And that Wal-Mart you were at is down the street from my parent's house, so I'm missing them too. How fun for you. And totally worth the hour and a half in life, even with a substantial baby in your arms!
I thought her hair was beautiful too. So red!
Oh you got to meet Ree?! I so wish i were somewhere close by to one of her book signings! Her cookbook is at the top of my Christmas list this year! =)
How awesome! I am so excited to meet her next month! I'm glad Tess was good for you. lol at the cheese puffs.
That looks like so much fun! I know you had a great time. There was an article about Ree in People mag this weekend and I was so excited. And she said her book is #1 on the bestseller list! Talk about blog power!
thanks for stopping by my blog! I wish I could have met you last night! I wasn't in line with any other bloggers...that would have been so fun! Where in AR are you?
She does have great hair, doesn't she?!
So jealous right now. Glad you had a good time & you even got pictures.
You are famous!! WOW! I want her cookbook now!
While you were with the Pioneer Woman, I was with Mike Huckabee at the Pleasant Grove Wal-Mart down from the house:0) The kids were much more impressed with his "bus ride."
Blessings,
Alicia
Hi Melissa! My mom and I were in line in front of you last night at the book signing! Wasn't Ree just how you thought she would be? Soooo fun! Your baby girl is just precious and reminds me so much of my youngest son with that little cotton top! I'm looking forward to reading your blog!
How fun!! I love her blog, I've tried a few of her recipes and LOVED them...now I need to get my hands on her cookbook!

How fun! It cracks me up that the event was held at Walmart rather than a bookstore:) That baby of yours is just the most adorable thing.
that's so funny it was held at wal-mart....... and i'm sure if she comes to our little town it will be held there as well.... we don't have a bookstore! ha
Substantial... love it! Tess is substantially cute, that's for sure.
How fun that you got to meet Ruthanne! And Ree!
The only event that our local Walmart has had was some WWE wrestler... and I was wondering why the line was wrapping around the building. I guess that's what sells in my high class area!
That's just fun! :)
What a blast!! I still don't have the book, but hope to get one soon. But meeting Ree, well . . . that definitely ranks way up there! :D
I recognize one of your blogger...the pretty blonde in the blue top with black scarf. Her name is Becky and she is a flight attendant for SW and we have "talked" for almost a year now. She is from over by Jonesboro. Her blog is here: fly4luv.blogspot.com and the name of her blog is "Looking Thorugh the Eyes of Love".
I am so jealous you got to meet Ree. I would have loved to been there too! I need to get her cookbook cause I feel like I know her!
Oh man, I wish she'd come to Oregon. I'd drive to Portland to meet her. How fun was that! Looking forward to getting her cookbook!!!
I had no idea there were so many Arkansas Bloggers! I always feel so alone when I go to conferences, and I'm the only one there from Arkansas!
I've been doing this for a long time, and really wish there was a bigger blog network here. I think there is, it just took the Pioneer Woman to bring us all out of the woodwork.
I'm a small town Arkansas girl who is in Little Rock now.
So cool!
What a fun night for you & the substantial one!
Cate
Isn't Ree wonderful? I got to hear her speak at BlogHer '09. I was in awe. :-)
Loved your pictures. And substantial would have made me laugh, too. LOL
How exciting! I am so jealous. I wish she was coming over in this neck of the woods.
Fun, fun, fun!
Hey Melissa; Glad you found me!!! lol Do you know Judy Martin? I noticed she gave you my information. I met Judy through blogging over a year ago and LUV her!!!
Where are you from in Arkansas?
Wasn't Ree the sweetest thing ever? I've been wondering all day how long it took her to finish up. Anywho, it was great meeting you and little Tess.....she's a doll, just like her mom.
Stop by and visit anytime!
That is so cool. I am glad you had a chance to do it! Her book looks wonderful. Love the photography...
I love her and wanted to be there so badly! Great photos!
I just got caught up on your blog. I would LOVE to meet her. Does she have an accent?
Do people WITH accents hear other people's accents?
hmmm...wonder if I have an accent to you.
Where else WOULD she go in Arkansas besides a Wal-Mart? It might be a Dollar General here in Alabama. :-)
Love it! So terribly cool!!
Oh this is just pure awesomeness.
I saw Ruthanne's pics, too. I can barely hold myself together. You got to hang out with Ruthanne and meet PW and MM.
That's a night for the record books.
It WAS quite a night wasn't it? I'm hurt that you don't think there are any guy bloggers here in AR. I'm giving a shout-out all the same. Y'all don't scare me! Okay, maybe just a leetle bit. Wonderful photos though! Glad to see other like-minded people! How amazing is that that PW brings all of us together?
I know what you mean by reading Ree's book. I just bought it yesterday and have read it starting from page one and was half way done the next time I looked up at the clock!
