Totally random list here, I know. I'm in a random kind of mood.1. My husband just returned from Mexico. He and our pastor ordained our missionary there. They were having a Bible school while he was there. He came back full of information and new insight into the work they are doing and how different it is for them.

This is an outdoor shower. Their only shower.

I'm so thankful for indoor showers, hot water, soap and clean towels. We really have so much more than we think we do. So what if I had to plunge the toilet the minute Clark left for the trip. At least I have a toilet.
We have been talking all morning about the trip. Later, I'm going to put together a slide show of his pictures for Sunday.
2. Yesterday, I returned from Mt. Ida where two of my college friends live.
While we were there cutie pie Tess got to sit up in a sink for her bath. She also kept her momma up all night by waking up every 2- 3 hours for a feeding. If it weren't for that sweet smile...
The kids did a lot of swimming. I did a lot of sitting on the porch and talking. And we walked to their creek one evening to skip rocks.3. As a result of our trip, last night Tess went to sleep boot camp. When she woke up 2 hours after I had put her down, I let her cry. Then I comforted her but did not feed her. After about an hour of crying, she settled down, slept and didn't wake up until I got her up at 3 am to feed her. It's not like I can turn off the faucet now that she has it on a schedule. Then she slept again until 8:30 this morning!
A pretty good first day of boot camp. But I have dreams of her sleeping all night!
4. I dreamed about snakes last night. I have no idea why. I think it's the first time I've been asleep long enough to dream in 3 weeks.
5. We listened to The Sign of the Beaver on the way to Mt. Ida and on the way home. It was wonderful. Go get it and read it to your kids this summer.
6. Darcy is having a giveaway for Corel Painter Essentials. While you're there, read her 3 part posts on "Taking care of your photos". I would only add that you print out the best photos each month and put them in an album. This has been the most important thing I've done. My kids love to get out the albums and look at what we did last year or on vacation. It's important.
7. The Nester is doing a Price My Space party on Monday. It sounds like fun and I want to participate, but I'm not sure I remember how much my stuff cost. Do you?
8. I've spent a lot of time online today playing catch-up. While I was at my friend's house, she only had dial up. I used (and blogged) on dial up for many years. Now dial up is like that shower up there to me. Ancient. Difficult. Ridiculous. Sad.
9. I'm going to get 3 bags of corn this afternoon and the rest of the day I'll be shucking, cutting off and bagging corn for the winter. I feel like a squirrel.
10. My house is a disaster.
I just needed to get that off my chest.

Two words: Nursing pads.
And right on with the Sleep Boot Camp.
Stick to your guns!
You don't know how much I needed to hear that someone else's house was a disaster.
That ministered to my heart.
As did thoughts of corn.
I'm so glad you're so real! Tess, you sleep all night, you hear?
Random Comments:
- I also have snake dreams sometimes....probably need therapy.
- We've listened to Sign of the Beaver, too and love audiobooks. Have you listened to the Tale of Despereaux? They ruined the movie - that audiobook is one of our family favs.
- Don't give up on sleep training! That full night's sleep is worth it!
Yay for sleep boot camp! I hope it continues to go well.
To bad your own body wouldn't let you sleep when your baby finally did! I've been there. Nursing pads weren't enough help. I guess I'm just a regular ol' cow. Still not sure I could bring myself to wake up a sleeping baby though!
When I was in high school we went to a camp in Mexico. Us Americans used the indoor shower, but the Mexicans wouldn't - they showered fully clothed outside.
One day while in the shower, in normal American shower attire, a HUGE snake crawled out from under the toilet and into the shower with me. Now at 16 - running naked down the hall was not an option, so me and my naked self and a HUGE snake danced around for awhile. Later when I was relating my story one of the Mexicans informed me that's why they didn't use the indoor facilities.
Good luck on the boot camp. Show no mercy. :)
That mission trip looked really interesting- always really opens your eyes! Glad he could go!
Love the pic of Tess in the tub :)
I want to do the Nester thing too- but no, I don't really remember what my stuff cost- I will pick a wall where everything was from Goodwill, probably :)
Tell me more about sleep boot camp - I know a little baby that needs that and a mommy too! I am exhausted from waking up with my little one. Does it work?
I am glad you got that off your chest...so to speak :)
You know I love to hear any story and see any pix of my favorite blog baby... she can do no wrong in my book, but it would be sweet if she would let her momma sleep!
The smile and laughing eyes get me every time I look at Tess!
I think an outdoor shower would be nice-- but as an alternative, not as an only. I think mosquitoes would hang out and bite my bum though. That's wouldn't be fun. We really are blessed to live in the USA!
Hope you get a whole night's sleep tonight! (And don't wake her up unless she wakes you up.)
Your baby girl is growing beautifully! She's a real charmer for the camera... I guess she'd be well used to it!!! I hope that she 'gets' the sleeping-through technique down pat soon. Broken sleep is nasty! So, yes, it's fortunate babies are cute and we love 'em!!! Blessings. Naomi
Whenever I see a picture of a cute little baby - like yours! - I always think to myself "That baby's mother is just KIDDING. Sweet little babies like that are NEVER any work!".
And that, my friend, is my ovaries talking.
Yay for boot camp success (so far) and can I just tell you that Tess is so stinkin' cute. I could stare at pics of her for hours. And seeing her cute little thigh & arm rolls makes my ovaries ache a bit. Enjoy every minute with that sweet girl!
We're heading to AR this week (NWA) to see my dad. I may have to find a sound recording of Sign of the Beaver. My older two have read it, but I haven't! Thanks for the tip.
with the corn....do you buy fresh corn, shuck it and then freeze it? what do you freeze it in? I never thought of this....hope you don't mind me asking....jillmeadors@yahoo.com
thanks
Jill
