Clementine picked out a new parakeet to replace Marco this week. When we first went to the pet shop to pick out Marco, she was attracted to him because he was the only bird in the cage who looked at her and followed her when she moved. He just looked friendly. He wasn't. He wasn't unfriendly, but he was reserved, did not like to be out of his cage and always seemed nervous when we were close to him.
This bird is different. Isn't it amazing how even animals like a birds can have completely different personalities? Kiwi, the new bird, is a people lover. She, we are calling her a she though we don't know yet if she is a she, wants to be out of her cage all the time. She loves to be near us, on our shoulders and hands. Clementine loves her.
As you can see, she is also a very different color. Almost completely yellow with hints of green and white under her wings and those two spots of light blue rouge on her cheeks.
She may not be as talkative as Marco was, but her affection is going to put her closer to our hearts.

I think she's gorgeous!
We don't have any pets, but that bird is giving me second thoughts...
Wow! Very bold! I like your choice in name. And, great picture. :) I'm glad you're enjoying your new toy!
She's lovely! Welcome, Kiwi!
What a beautiful girl!! That color is so striking. I hope you have many years of loving her!
Great photo, girl! Happy for your crew. And I STILL LOVE YOUR NEW BLOG LOOK!!!!!!!
How beautiful!!! Enjoy your new friend. :-)
Kiwi is beautiful! ohh, I love parakeets!! when I was a girl I raised parakeets and cockatiels, I think I loved the parakeets best because they are such social busy body noise makers..it's so social sounding!
from the picture, I would say she is a girl...unless she is real young, the color of her cere- the part where her nostrils are, in boys they are usually blue, girls are usually more flesh colored. But, if they are real young it might take a while for the color to change.
you probably know this, but way back in the 70's and 80's when I had birds, most people did not know that they need to eat more then seeds. They should have fresh veggies everyday..or the easiest is to thaw out a little bit of mixed frozen vegetables, like corn/green beans and carrots. They love fresh greens. You're gonna laugh at me, but I have a bird cornbread recipe... oh, and cheerios are a favorite treat!! Give her some fresh greens everyday, make sure to clean out the old- you will have a happy, healthy budgie (not too much fruit or she'll get the runs).
love her name!
