Another spider post

If you are arachnophobic, you may want to avert your eyes. I am enjoying our little spider and can't resist sharing my photos. He moved from the window screen to the side of the porch above our rose bush. I go out every day and see what's going on.

He has the most beautiful web stretched out wide with his little zig zaggy space in the middle, which is command central.

If anything touches his web he races down to investigate. Emeline, ever the antagonist, tossed a leaf into his web and he raced down, determined it was inedible and extracted it (it's amazing to watch 8 legs at work), tossing it out of the web and leaving part of the web damaged. I'm sure he'll do repair work tonight.

Today, He caught a grasshopper.

He had it partially wrapped up like a little mummy and stayed in this position for quite a while. Presumably drinking his blood.

Isn't he lovely. Such sharp, pointy legs. All eight of them. Such bright yellow and black contrast. I'm not a spider lover. But when they are this beautifully decorated who can resist snapping a few photos. I feel like the paparazzi, always shoving my camera in his face, even while he's digesting.

For those of you who have stuck with me through yet another spider rant, here's a bonus photo of a gentle, lovely butterfly. Equally beautiful, though not as still.

Beautiful butterfly pic!

And that spider? It looks juicy. Our spider is gone, but there are remnants of his web with a bunch of leaves stuck to it. I wonder where he went. Hopefully not my closet...

So not only do you make everything sound like poetry, you make every photo seem like art. And you're pretty. And smart. Your poor future daughter-in-law. You'd better be a bad cook or something, or she is going to be so intimidated by Milo's mom. You're simply amazing!

We have a garden spider outside our front window. My kids have been feeding it everyday. I posted a picture on my blog too. I think ours is a female, because she's very chubby.

Pretty butterfly too!

Oh, I just love your posts on things you find in nature. The spider with its web and eating a grassshopper, just amazing to see nature at work. We recently have been spotting birds in our backyard. I thought of you chickadee and how well you know your birds. We learned a lot looking them up in a field guide.
Thanks!
Mindy :)
